Roman first got in contact with karate in 1998 at the age of ten. With motivating trainers he quickly became more and more enthusiastic and was able to enter the German talent squad for kata in 2000. Fortunately, the German national coach Efthimios Karamitsos had his club in Frankfurt, 30 minutes away from his home town, thus giving Roman the opportunity to have first class training every week.
In the following years, Roman got into the national team and had the chance to participate in many international competitions and championships and to visit a variety of countries in Europe. Some of the most important successes being the 1st place at the European Shotokan Championship 2004 in Spain as a Cadet and the bronze medal at the World Championship 2005 in Cyprus in Kata Team Junior.
When he came to Cambridge in October 2007 he was very glad to find that CUKC allowed him not only to continue his training under Sensei Richard Poole and to participate in KUGB and BUSA tournaments in kata, but also gave him the opportunity to compete in kumite, gaining new experience.
