Richard Poole

Richard has trained and taught karate with the KUGB for over 40 years and in the past has been a member of karate clubs in Rhyl & Prestatyn, Cardiff and the Red Triangle club in Liverpool. He was awarded 7th Dan from the KUGB in 2018.
During his competitive career he won many titles and represented Wales internationally with the KUGB and also the Welsh All Styles Association in both Kata and Kumite.

Following retirement from competition Richard undertook a number of leadership roles in karate Nationally and Internationally. These included:

Chairman of the KUGB in Wales for 24 years.

Chairman of the governing body for Karate in Wales.

Chairman of the British Karate Federation.

Manager of the British All Styles Team - top competing nation in the WKF world championships in South Africa 1996.

President of the European Karate-do Association 2007 - to date.

President of the World Shotokan Karate-do Association 2009 - to date.

In addition Richard was the National kata coach for the Welsh KUGB team for a number of years and an international referee for over 20 years.

Richard continues to teach karate both within the UK and internationally.
Since becoming chief instructor to the club in 2003 he has brought great expertise and enthusiasm to CUKC and is very proud of the many achievements of CUKC members. In particular the record number of varsity wins over Oxford, the victory over Keio University in Japan in 2007, the winning of the Men's Team kumite event at the KUGB Nationals and the CUKC members who have won medals at both World and European championships whilst representing the KUGB internationally.
