Katerina Pateraki - Club Instructors

2nd Dan KUGB

Katerina Pateraki

Katerina started Shotokan karate in Crete at the age of 16. She graded to 6th kyu before changing styles to shito-ryu, and it was during this period she started to compete, primarily in kumite, winning medals at local and regional level. Katerina graded to 1st Dan shito-ryu before moving to Lincoln, England, where she joined the local shito-ryu club, and then relocated to Leicester where she took up Shotokan again and cross-graded to Shodan in Shotokan karate under Sensei Rick Jackson. She graded to Nidan in 2008 under Senseis Sherry and Brennan.

Katerina joined CUKC in September 2004 and immediately joined the competition squad. Since then she has twice won bronze in kumite at Centrals, and has won other medals in the team event. Katerina was a member of team who defeated Keio University in the match on tour to Japan, and says of the victory that 'we won with our spirit'. In January 2008 Katerina was selected for the senior KUGB England kumite squad.

Despite her competitive successes in kumite, Katerina prefers training in kata, and is also interested in using breathing and relaxation to enhance her karate.
