KUGB Nationals 2021 Competition Report

As September approached, the 11-strong CUKC squad arrived at their first official post-COVID competition – the KUGB Nationals. With a strong representation across all individual and team Kata and Kumite events, the competitors faced stiff opposition from high quality opponents that proved to be a great opportunity to re-hone their Kata and Kumite skills on the big stage of the Nottingham University Sports Centre, ahead of the upcoming Varsity Match in just under a month's time.

There were some excellent kata performances across the men's and women's squad, with particular mentions going to Tegwen and Millie. The men's team Kata performance from Ismael, Dao and Tom also boded well for the Varsity Match. In the kumite events, Fizz and Millie scored notable victories against tough opponents, with another highlight being the performance of the two women's kumite squads - one of which won bronze medals in the category! Congratulations to Danielle, Jasmin and Tegwen, and also to the rest of the competitors involved.

The Varsity Match on the Sunday 3rd of October is fast approaching, where the club will be seeking a historic 15th consecutive win against the dark side. The match is taking place in the University Sports Centre in Cambridge at 3pm on the day, and if spectators are permitted, we would love to see as many of you there as possible to support us! In the meantime, we encourage everyone to continue rigorously training at home and we look forward to seeing everyone back in Cambridge once term starts.
