Even amongst the restrictions we’ve been living under, CUKC managed to celebrate the closest we could manage to Annual Dinner in the form of an outdoor barbecue.

Amongst lateral flow tests, trips to Aldi to buy copious amounts of barbecue food, and the threat of rain, we came together to safely celebrate a strange but successful year for the club.

While we weren’t in the usual formal setting of a college, we still had the most important traditions such as speeches, awards (including the inaugural awarding of the Bob Poynton trophy), the play, and – of course – karateka getting very, very drunk.

The double winner of the night was Dao Qian, who came away with both the Most Improved and Unsung Hero awards, the latter of which was awarded in honour of the late Sensei Bob Poynton.

For those who couldn’t make it, we livestreamed these events via zoom, an upgrade from the entirely online Annual Dinner of 2020.
