BUSA Karate Championships 2006

The British Universities Sports Association (BUSA) Karate Championships are held annually, usually in or around Lent Term. University clubs from around the UK travel to the host university to compete against each other. Cambridge has had a long and very distinguished involvement at BUSA, picking up many medals and trophies over the years. This year the BUSA Championships were held in Edinburgh.

Competition Report

At the Karate BUSA Championships in Edinburgh last weekend the Cambridge team all performed very well. Impressive performances came in particular from Madeleine Wood, Charlie Gray, Paul Smith and Will Sprunt.

Cambridge (Simon Picot, Ian Macleod and Tom Auld) achieved the team kata silver medal, only losing to Edinburgh 3-2 in the final. In the Women's Team Kumite (Sarah Owen, Charlie Gray and Madeleine Wood) we were unlucky to just miss out on a bronze medal to London.

In the individuals, Will Sprunt and Sarah Owen [kata] and Paul Smith, Ian Macleod and Simon Picot all achieved top 8 finishes, narrowly missing out on medals.
